キャメロン監督、AIの創造性を評価も「人生経験」が差

Legendary filmmaker James Cameron, a board member of Stability AI, believes generative AI is the solution to Hollywood's rising visual effects costs. He sees AI not as a replacement for artists but as a powerful tool to make them more productive. His goal is to increase throughput within existing creative companies, allowing more ambitious projects to be greenlit in a challenging theatrical market, rather than cutting jobs.
Cameron advocates for custom-built AI models that integrate directly into established visual effects workflows. He expresses less interest in "text-to-video" generators, which he views as more suitable for entry-level filmmakers. For high-end productions, the focus is on augmenting the capabilities of skilled artists rather than automating the entire creative process from a prompt, ensuring AI remains a tool in service of human creativity.
While Cameron argues that AI can be "just as creative" as humans, he stresses a critical limitation: it lacks a "unique lived experience." This personal viewpoint, he says, is the foundation of the most impactful literature and film. Therefore, AI should always be in service of a human director's unique vision, acting as an advanced instrument in the creative process rather than the originator of the core ideas.
In parallel with his AI exploration, Cameron has partnered with Meta to revitalize 3D entertainment. At the Meta Connect conference, he and CTO Andrew Bosworth unveiled their collaboration to bring stereoscopic content to Meta's Quest headsets. The partnership launched with an exclusive preview of the upcoming *Avatar 3*, demonstrating their shared vision for a new era of immersive entertainment native to MR devices.
Cameron, a long-time proponent of stereoscopic media, argues that mixed reality headsets finally solve the problems that caused 3D TVs to fail. Unlike the inconsistent home experience of the past—which suffered from dim displays, flawed glasses, and narrow viewing angles—MR headsets provide a guaranteed high-quality, bright, and immersive 3D experience for every user, every time, creating a reliable premium platform.
Both Cameron and Bosworth see MR headsets as the ideal distribution platform for the next wave of 3D content. Cameron specifically highlighted the untapped potential for episodic television in stereoscopic 3D, a format that previously lacked a viable distribution channel. With headsets now offering high-resolution displays and refresh rates, the technology is finally ready to fulfill the promise of engaging 3D storytelling at scale.
