Major US technology companies have committed £31 billion ($42 billion) to bolster the United Kingdom's artificial intelligence infrastructure and ecosystem. The wave of investments was announced this week, coinciding with a state visit from US President Trump and the signing of a US-UK "Tech Prosperity Deal." The partnership aims to accelerate development in AI, quantum computing, and nuclear technology, positioning the UK as a critical hub for the next industrial revolution.
Nvidia is spearheading this push with a £2 billion investment designed to catalyze the UK’s AI startup scene. CEO Jensen Huang announced the fund in partnership with prominent venture capital firms, including Accel and Balderton Capital. The initiative will help new companies bring innovative AI applications to market, creating jobs and scaling the technology's impact across industries. Huang described it as a “Goldilocks moment” for the UK, citing its convergence of top-tier research, talent, and capital.
The investment includes the largest AI infrastructure rollout in UK history. Nvidia and its partners—Microsoft, OpenAI, Nscale, and CoreWeave—will deploy 120,000 advanced Blackwell GPUs. By 2026, these will power a new generation of "AI factories" that are 100 times more powerful than today's leading supercomputers. This massive computational capacity is intended to enable breakthroughs in science, healthcare, and public services.
The strategic importance of this collaboration was underscored by the presence of top tech executives at a state banquet for President Trump. Apple CEO Tim Cook, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman were among the guests, signaling a deep alignment between Silicon Valley and US-UK government priorities. This marks a shift toward technology leaders playing a more central role in international economic policy.
UK government officials lauded the deal as a modernization of the "special relationship" between the two nations. Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that the partnership focuses on using AI for mutual security and safety in addition to business and trade. He called it the "biggest-ever tech agreement" between the US and UK, designed to fuel innovation and economic growth across the entire country, not just London.
